Keep on learning!

Many of you are busy with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.  It is first and foremost, a time for family and friends to get together and share in the spirit of living and giving! Over these next two weeks, your child's journey of learning can still continue whenever they wish or choose to do so.  If you are wondering what to do, here are some suggestions you can share with your child:

Read - Why not get into a good book that you may have been putting off?  Have your child think about all the elements of a novel that we have been examining with our own class novel.  Do they notice the same? Or, just relax and read for pure pleasure

Write - Be creative! Use their thinking book, a journal, a notebook and write a story, their day's events or even their hopes and dreams! Ask them to think about some goals they would like to achieve either for school or in their personal life.

Create - Think about our past unit on Human Organ Systems.  Look up some interesting experiments on past systems we have studied, or systems they would like to study when we return in January.  See if they can develop their own independent inquiry or create their own model of a system that interests them.

Math - Keep up their skills by visiting Google classroom.  I will be posting problem solving questions throughout the next two weeks.  Have your child visit regularly and submit their answers.  Also, don't forget to visit the Prodigy website.  Each student has a login name and password to play this math game.

Enjoy!

Happy Holidays!

I wish you all a safe and happy holiday! Enjoy this time with your children. All the best for a joyous 2016!

This last week of school in December...

It has been an extremely busy and exciting last 2 weeks at school! We received Beckett Farm spirit wear, were visited by Scientist in Schools, and participated in the many activities of the 10 days of holiday countdown. Most especially, your children were AWESOME on concert day as they had to perform 3 times!
This week we made adorable snow friends. We then met our Little Buddies in Mrs. Mueller's grade one class and helped them to make their own creations. It was so touching to see the older students guiding the younger ones patiently as they stuffed and glued all the materials together. It made me realize the truth in the lyrics of our concert song Three Little Birds...Don't worry about a thing because every little thing is going to be alright!

Scientist in School (SIS)

Last week we investigated What in the World is Matter?" with a real scientist! We did many things such as:
- testing the physical properties of plastic (ask them which one floated?)
- creating a chemical reaction (ask them how it looked, felt and sounded, what made it turn pink?)
- analysing a mystery substance ( what was it?)

Operation Christmas Child

Thank you students and families for your donations. Our gift boxes are sure to help make 2 children in our world feel special and loved. The students were eager to fill them and in fact, were so full of items that they had to be held together with tape and an elastic band!

Our Systems at Work!

The students explored how our respiratory and circulatory systems work together. Ask them about what happens after we breathe in oxygen? What happens to our blood? Explaining this process will be part of our upcoming quiz!
